Today was the day to collect the new beekeeping equipment I had pre-ordered from E.H Thorne’s open day at Stockbridge in Hampshire, it’s an hour and a half drive up, but it was a lovely day for it.

It was nice to meet several members of the local beekeeping association there too – and the tea and cake went down well, thank you very much.

I bought several extra bits while there, and Tracy, my wife, also bought some lovely cards and gift items. She also bought some pots of queen marking paint for marking the hedgehogs at the hedgehog rescue that we run.

We got a call on the way back to collect two baby hogs that somebody had found whilst doing some gardening. We took these little boys into our care, as they would not make it through the winter, being from a late litter – they do not even have their teeth through yet.

The house now smells of cedar and beeswax, with boxes piled up in the back room – my list of winter jobs has grown considerably….
