I managed to get the inspections done on the hives in my garden today – all queens seen, all laying well and a fair few drones in the hives, especially the double brood hives.

I have one weak hive, on about 6 frames, but there is a lot of sealed brood so numbers will pick up in the next week.

All the hives have capped honey and stacks of pollen in, and with the wall to wall frames of sealed brood in the hives, there will be a population explosion, and no doubt swarm preparations in the hives.

I will have to keep a close eye on the hives now, and carry out a few splits to help prevent swarming.

Hopefully this bodes well for this season…
