In the last couple of weeks I have seen two swarms fly over my house, today while working in the garden, I heard that distinctive sound of a swarm approaching, and they seemed to be settling in the trees behind my house. I nipped out the back gate and saw them landing in a scrub oak tree, about 50m behind my house, at just above head height.

I gave them half an hour to settle, and went back armed with secateurs, sheet, nuc and febreeze. Got myself a tidy little swarm to fill one of my empty hives.

I got a kiss on the face while cutting branches out of the way for access – that’ll learn me, as my old Granddad used to say.
